Frequently Asked Wireless Network Questions
Does wireless product X work through concrete?
This would have to be the most common wireless networking question we get asked. The short answer is NO, if anyone is telling you their product works through concrete, reinforced concrete, brick, or anything equally solid, they're not telling you straight. Quite simply, there is a very good reason hospital X-ray rooms use lead and concrete, it stops the rays, wireless isn't as strong as these tools, so you can make your own judgement here.
Can I have 100's of users connect to one wireless access point?
You sure can! We use Xirrus Wifi Arrays which are designed for high throughput in a small space. Xirrus Arrays are ideal for conferences, staffrooms and libraries. We have personally tested these at a conference with 300 delegates and it worked flawlessly, the Internet connection was the only thing that let us down!
Why do I need a wireless controller?
It really depends on your wireless network. Wireless controllers are awesome for managing your wireless access points, especially when you have many installed all over your school or campus. Wireless Controllers are idea for central management of your access points, and tell you helpful information such as who is using your wireless network, how much traffic a user is using, and which access point they are connected to. Good reasons to not use a controller are if you have a small volume of users, with a small volume of access points. If you're using more than 5 access points, there is usually a good case for using a controller.
Can you cover an area XXm2?
This question is similar to the one regarding working through concrete. The question you want to ask is, do you have a product that will fit my needs? Xirrus Wireless Arrays will cover a much larger area than a normal wireless network, with many more users.
Bluesocket Wireless Networks
Bluesocket is a vendor agnostic wireless networking solution. Bluesocket Wireless Controller Appliances will secure your wireless network, provide role based authentication, integrate with active directory using open standards such as 802.1x for WPA2-AES or TKIP encryption. Totali, Tauranga (New Zealand) is able to design and build your Bluesocket network. Bluesocket Access Points provide awesome value for money as they let you manage your network directly from your Bluesocket Controller, from anywhere on your network. Adding a new Bluesocket Access Point is as easy as plugging it in. Your Bluesocket Controller will also play nicely with your Aruba, Cisco or Lancom access points as well, but they will need to be configured manually unlike Bluesocket APs (BSAPs), which will automatically configure themselves on your network.
Aruba Wireless Networks
If you're considering an enterprise wireless network, Totali can design a Bluesocket network for you, letting you use any vendor's wireless accesspoints rather than Aruba Access Points, and Aruba Controllers which favour only Aruba Wireless equipment. Using Bluesocket over Aruba lets Totali, New Zealand, deliver a cost effective wireless solution using any enterprise grade wireless access point such as Aruba, Cisco or Lancom. If you aren't happy with your current wireless network, and it's running Aruba or Cisco equipment, Totali may be able to help you integrate a Bluesocket Controller into your network, leveraging your existing wireless equipment investment, using Cisco or Aruba wireless access points.
Integrate your Cisco Access Points with Bluesocket
You can use your existing Cisco APs with a Bluesocket Controller solution by Totali (NZ).
