Google Apps syncs passwords from Active Directory
We've been asked so many times if it's possible to syncronise passwords from Active Directory to Google Apps. We've heard a few people could do it, only to find they had just implemented SSO (Single Sign On) using Shibboleth. Shibboleth is great, and pretty easy to implement for SSO using open standards like SAML. We are pleased to inform everyone that we now have passwords syncronising with Google Apps. This doesn't mean you have to make changes to your active directory structure, to allow insecure passwords (plain text passwords).
TSync - Web Application Service Password Syncronisation
TSync is our web application password syncing tool. It's a web based service using industry standard encryption libraries used by the U.S. Government. We have a small service that runs on your primary domain controller (PDC) updating users and passwords to our secure web service. Initially we will have syncronisation with Google Apps only, we have plans to add more services with APIs, so your Active Directory will be able to syncronise other applications in the future.
Google Password Sync Application
TSync keeps your passwords in sync when they are changed inside Active Directory. Google provide a Python application that helps keep your users in sync with Google Applications for Education or Premier, but not their passwords. Active Directory passwords can be stored in plan or binary mode. Saving your passwords in Active Directory in plain mode is a security risk, only Totali TSync for Google securely synchronises your passwords while keeping Active Directory storing passwords in binary mode.
Web Application Passwords from AD
TSync can help generate accounts for various web services using the same usernames and passwords you have in your Microsoft Active Directory. TSync will allow you to interface into other applications in the future as we add more support for API (Application Programming Interface), so you can easily implement into other web based applications.
